Long Time No Blog!

Written on 2:04 AM by VeeKarnik

It's been a while...a long while since our last post. Staying away from the excuses, I'm blogging right into what's been happening in our absence.

This made headlines. Twitter reached a 10 billion tweets. Believe the 1 billionth tweet was sadly put up by a protected profile. So we will never know what that was, but read more on how the tweets have just been coming!

In India too many celebrities and businesses are now tweeting. With SRK, Priety Zinta and even Lalit Modi on Twitter be prepared for lots of IPL in Twitterverse!

The Twitter bug has also hit the classroom! I really don't think this is a great idea...but well looks like it is helping the shy ones express their opinions!

News on the Desi front.

MSN India goes vernacular. Webduniya.com and MSN India have tied up to develop MSN Yuva a Hindi website.

Yahoo has created a contest for love stories where the internet plays a key role. Some in-film placement, an urban love story set in the office and Karthik Calling Karthik have initiated the Love @ First Click Contest.

And finally Happy Woman's Day is a trending topic on Twitter. Before we celebrate...have a look at why we've got a day and the men don't!

Devious Friday!

Haven't we all had our share of miserable, boring, nonsensical, long meetings?

At the cost of rubbing people the wrong way, I am going to let you in on a little digital secret! There is a site to actually measure how lousy your meeting was!!! MeetorDie.com is a creation of Vapourware Labs. The internet has a great sense of humor. It is definitely a must visit site!!

Next up.

Q: Can we go on strike?
A: Yes! Yes!
Q: But on what platform?
A: Why not digital? Everyone is going digital!

That is exactly what advertising agencies in Belgium did (yes they go on strike as well!). These agencies shut-down their websites to protest how clients were conducting pitches. Read more...

Worth a thought!

Let me stop making dangerous statements and get to some news.

Zapak has a reason to celebrate. Read more...

But sad news from Rang7 and Brandadda. Read more...

If you have not caught it on the news; post the bomb blast on the 13th in German Bakery people are coming together to rebuild German Bakery.

You can support the cause. Visit their Facebook page. Started by Srinath Navghare & Sahil Khan.

So me signing off a good note...have a safe weekend guys!

Horizontal vs. Vertical Ad Networks

Written on 3:21 AM by VeeKarnik

What are ad networks?

A wiki search will tell that an ad network is a company that connects web sites, that want to host advertisements with advertisers to put up their ads.

Horizontal ad networks are built around serving advertisers seeking direct response (DR). These networks focus on reach and feedback technology. This works great for a DR campaign, it fails to add any value in branding campaigns as they do not engage the target audience.

On the other hand vertical ad networks specialize in a particular field. This means that being present on a relevant vertical ad network gives us access to high audience composition who were already present in an environment related to our advertisement/product/brand.

And in what's happening in the digital space...

'Idea Mobile Roadie Challenge 2.0' was launched

Mumbai Indians internet presence to be managed by MSN

Stop Tweeting says MU :-)

And the I-Pad is real!

Written on 3:24 AM by VeeKarnik

Good evening!

It's been a while since I blogged about the digital space. And today as I decided to start...I had to with the apple I-Pad.

I've read so many many articles about Apple's latest offering that it gets a tad bit confusing. But then mashables.com came to my rescue (as most times).

So here goes a comprehensive guide to the Apple I-Pad. http://mashable.com/2010/01/27/ipad/

The I-Pad is Apple's step towards bringing connectivity, entertainment and the internet (in the broadest terms) on to one platform. We've all spoken and discussed this event and now it is here...

Moving on...an interesting video on augmented reality (courtesy: Abhilash). How far can we stretch this technology has been interestingly shown in this video. Just let your imagination flow!

We create pages on Facebook for our brands. Well, have you thought about a social networking site just to interact with brands? So here you do not follow actors and musicians (like on Twitter). Here you follow your favourite brands, keep in touch with the latest, help maketeers create ads, take part in contests and so much more.

Started by BCCL brandpotion.com is has been started with the above intention. I guess this is a great option for most of brands to experiment and build the number of followers!

Little Desi & Little Pardesi

Written on 2:13 AM by VeeKarnik

Let's start with Desi this fresh week.

On to some news. In.com revamped its page to facilitate greater user activity. Something new they have added is careers. Read more here http://www.alootechie.com/content/incom-revamped-facilitate-easy-discovery-and-greater-user-interactivity

Go and check their page out. I am hoping that they have handled their volume issues on their player. I have always felt the music plays a little too loud.

And some competition to Tata Sky and their Active channels. Indiagames and Reliance Big TV have come together to offer gaming or Igames on the DTH platform.

I came across this interesting free service online called Move Idiot. It actually helps you track your packages, organize your packing lists and co-ordinate all your moving ordeals.

An interesting option for retail clients...Place page baits.

Jumping to Avataar. Did you know that it is soon going to be the highest ever grosser from Hollywood beating Titanic? I got curious and started reading about how this movie was marketed. And tada!!! I came across this

Quite fascinating!!! And while on Avataar how can we forget the whole 3D experience? Now let's go a wee bit crazy...and imagine...what if we could watch 3D on Youtube??!!??! Is that even possible?? Well this link has some examples...

Don't we wish we had not returned our 3D glasses at Fame! But if you are really keen on watching these 3D videos on youtube you could make your own glasses :-)!!

And before I sign out news from India! Now you can insert dynamic ads in online live video streams.
